Early Retirement Announcement from Chief Executive

Finlay Robertson, the chief executive of Lancashire Care NHS Trust is to retire.

Staff at the Trust were informed this morning of Mr Robertson’s plans to leave the Trust at the end of September.

Trust Chairman Jo Darbyshire and the Non Executive Directors of the Trust have already begun work to find his replacement and plan to have appointed a successor before Mr Robertson leaves.

Mrs Darbyshire told staff that she would be very sorry to see Mr Robertson leave the Trust and paid tribute to his efforts in uniting several organisations to form the Trust in 2002 as well as his achievements in helping to achieve Foundation Trust status last year.

“Finlay has given great service to the Trust and the NHS over a 38 year career and he will be helping us find a suitable candidate to replace him.”

Mr Robertson says that two thoughts were uppermost in his mind when weighing up his decision:

“We achieved Foundation Trust status last year and have created clear plans for the next 10 years. I think it is an ideal time for a new chief executive to come in to see these through”.

“I have always planned to take early retirement and I have a range of professional and personal interests to pursue, so the time is right.”

The Trust has appointed recruitment consultants to seek a successor and will consider both external and internal candidates for the post.

Lancashire Care NHS Trust was formed in 2002 by the amalgamation of several localised services throughout Lancashire.

It provides mental health and substance misuse services across Lancashire, serving a population of around 1.4 million people.

The Trust employs more than 3,500 staff at more than 100 sites in an area covered by five Primary Care Trusts.
