I have been a Staff Governor since 9 December 2016. I am currently employed as Trust Locum Consultant Psychiatrist since March 2012. I have over 25 year experience in Psychiatry. I am committed to my role as Staff Governor.

I believe my past five years of work experience across 3 sectors of LCFT help me to make a positive contribution to the organisation and my medical colleagues. I am so pleased to have the opportunity to represent medical staff constituency.

I have worked in different Mental Health Services in LCFT viz Adult Psychiatry, Older Adult, Forensic and MAS (Memory Assessment Services, Community set up and Inpatient Units (Parkwood and The Harbour). This mobility gave me a wealth of experience and provision of excellence of care to my patients and  The Trust and  I will represent the view  and interest of the Medical staff across LCFT.

My interest within LCFT is Older Adult Mental Health, Advance Care and Dementia, Memory Assessment Services.

- I am Clinical Supervisor for GP Trainee in Older Adult Psychiatry

- I am passionate to deliver my service and care to LCFT patients.

- I am Life Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine (London) and International Member of American Psychiatric Association.

I have worked for LCFT for the past 11 years, as an Occupational Therapist in a range of settings including Rehabilitation, Adult Mental Health and Older Adult Mental Health. I have also worked as a Professional Lead and most recently as a Clinical Leader. I value receiving patient experience feedback and working with frontline clinicians to improve quality. I am in a privileged position to have worked alongside many services, giving me a wealth of experience and understanding of excellence in care that exists within the Trust. I am proud to be an Occupational Therapist and a Clinical Leader within LCFT. My ethos of empowering others to be the best they can be, together with delivering high quality care remain my top priorities and I will represent the views and interests of Health and Social Care Professionals and Support Staff.

The areas of the Trust which interest me particularly include Mental Health, Advanced Care and Dementia, Therapies and Rehabilitation Integration Agenda and the Quality Strategy.

I have been a nurse since 1972 and I am passionate and driven about striving to provide patient centred and researched based care.

I joined Lancashire Care since 1988 after a spell with Mersey Care for 5 years. I have worked in different managerial and clinical roles and am very pleased to have the opportunity to represent the nursing professional's constituency as a Trust Governor.

I strive for excellence and for our service to provide safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. I am a specialist advisor for the CQC in mental health and participate in their new approach to inspections.

I have worked with children, adults and older adults with mental health and physical needs. I specialised in Dementia care and I am a Dementia Champion for the Alzheimer's Society, raising awareness in my local community on the subject.

I have held a number of HR roles in both the private and public sectors, joining the NHS in 2009 and transferring into Lancashire Care from Blackburn with Darwen PCT in April 2011. Currently the strategic lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, I am passionate about ensuring NHS services and employment opportunities are accessible to all and I hope to use my role as a staff governor to share the stories that people tell me about their experiences of our organisation with a wider audience. I am particularly interested in improving the experiences trans people have when engaging with healthcare services and am a committed LGBT ally. Employee wellbeing and engagement are also really important to me and I work hard to promote the People Plan. When I am not at work, I like to travel as much as possible and see what’s going on around the World!

   

Helen Scott

Helen is a dually qualified nurse with over 30 years of experience in different settings both in Lancashire and the Midlands, who has worked for LCFT since its inception.  Her area of expertise is older people’s mental health and in recent years she has managed both community services and been an inpatient matron. Currently Helen is also working with Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group as an Agent of Change to help progress the Better Care Together and Vanguard agenda.

Helen is passionate about high quality nursing making a difference to people’s lives and applied to be a staff governor in order to represent the views of the nursing workforce and ask questions as part of the assurance framework. Working in and managing front line services allows Helen to directly understand the current challenges that clinicians face as the Trust is expected to provide better services with less resources and needs to constantly innovate to meet population need.

Helen has previously been an active member of the Alzheimer’s society, is a dignity champion and a Dementia friend.  She has also trained as a mindfulness practitioner, using this to help build her own resilience.

I have been a Registered Mental Health Nurse for nearly 30 years and have worked in a variety of settings both with in patients and community. I currently work as  a Practice and Quality Development Lead within Adult Mental Health Services and lead on various quality initiatives ensuring that these are embedded into everyday practice.  I ensure my clinical skills are up to date by working with the Mental Health Liaison Service. I am passionate about  ensuring that Service Users are at the heart of everything we do and striving to deliver high quality care. I enjoy mentoring and teaching  staff and encouraging them to be the best they can be.

Outside of work my interests are spending time with my family, learning Spanish, exercising at the gym and volunteering behind the bar at a local theatre.
