HMP Kirkham Healthcare Department

We provide primary healthcare to 630 adult male sentenced prisoners located in an open prison. We provide a variety of nurse led clinics delivered as would be in the community, including:

  • Chronic Disease management, including diabetes
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Epilepsy
  • Chronic kidney disease

We offer screening and vaccinations for blood borne viruses. We have specialist clinics for sexual health, dentistry, podiatry, opticians, stop smoking and a comprehensive health screening service for men transferring between prisons and preparing for discharge.

In addition, we offer a daily GP service.

Mental Health

We provide support/treatment for men with severe and enduring mental illness, and moderate/severe depression. Treatment options depend on need and promotion of multi-agency collaborative working.

Specific duties performed include CPA framework, multi-agency working, MAPPA, risk management, awareness training and release planning.
