Single Point of Access

Single Point of Access

Single Point of Access (SPoA) provides a single point of access into Adult Mental Health Services (aged 16+). The services provide assessment, triage and sign posting for new referrals into services.

Primary Mental Health Services provide brief psychological therapy for people suffering from common mental health problems, e.g. depression, anxiety and panic disorder. People are normally seen within GP surgeries or community settings. Therapies can be offered via face to face, telephone or online therapy.

The team can offer support in a number of ways. Depending on your needs these may include:

  • Guided self-help focuses on empowering people to make changes at a pace that suits you
  • Counselling to help address difficult life events and problems you may experience in relationships
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking treatment that looks at how thoughts affect emotions whilst helping you to identify goals
  • Access to a range of other professionals, for example Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Psychologists
  • Signposting to put you in contact with other services that can offer you help and support

How to access this service

Single Point of Access accepts all referrals for Adult Mental Health Services, referrals are screened and assesed by Nurse Assessors and referred to the most appropriate service or therapeutic intervention. Referrals to the service can be made by GPs, practice nurses, health visitors, and other health professionals, statutory and non-statutory services. Self-referrals are also accepted.

Referrals for IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) are accepted for patients presenting with common mental health problems, including depression, stress, anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder and sleep problems.
