Julia previously worked for Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust as a Psychological Therapist but left the Trust in 2010 due to ill health. Julia also previously worked in Local Authority Housing/Homelessness, Education, Community Mental Health and Secure Mental Health Services.
Julia was brought up on a Council Estate in Manchester and studied Social Science at University in the 1980s. She is an out lesbian who has worked in a community organisation as an LGBT worker. Julia still lives in Manchester and is a Teaching Assistant in the Law & Criminology Department of the University. She recently returned to education and completed a Master’s degree in Health Care Ethics and Law. Julia is a Quaker and does some voluntary work for meetings including gardening, attending conferences and writing reports. She has a long term-partner and supports her children and grand-children.
Julia has experience of using mental health services and caring for vulnerable relatives. When she was young she experienced six months in an adolescent mental health unit. This later gave her a unique perspective in supporting services users in distress or crisis.
