    Meet the Medical Education Team

    Dr Gareth Thomas
    Acting Director of Medical Education (DME)

    Gareth is a Consultant Psychiatrist for Older People and is our DME. He was previously Deputy DME and Deputy Course Director of the MRCPsych Course in the North West.  Gareth was awarded the Trust Supervisor of the Year in 2017, NW RCPsych Trainer of the Year in 2018 and shortlisted for the National RCPsych Trainer of the Year Award in 2018.

    Dr Yousaf Iqbal
    Acting Deputy Director of Medical Education

    Yousaf is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist, and is our Deputy DME. He was previously a Site Tutor. He is a CS/ES, and an MRCPsych CASC examiner. He has also been involved in national recruitment panels for Core trainees and regional ARCP Panels for Core/Higher trainees. He was our Supervisor of the Year (joint) in 2018.

    Dr Brijesh Desai
    Locality Site Tutor (North)

    Brijesh is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist, and is our Site Tutor for North Lancashire, which includes the Harbour and Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. He is a Clinical and Educational supervisor, and previously was the General Adult module lead for the regional MRCPsych Course and has a keen interest in Critical Appraisal.

    Dr Adam Joiner
    Locality Site Tutor (East)

    Adam is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist (ADHD and Early Intervention in Psychosis). He is our Site Tutor for East Lancashire, which includes Blackburn and Burnley. Previously he has been a research tutor and is well published. He is an advocate of plant based nutrition.

    Dr Tarun Khanna
    Acting Locality Site Tutor (Central)

    Tarun is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist, and is our Site Tutor for Central Lancashire, which includes Chorley, Ormskirk, Guild Lodge and Lancaster. He is a Clinical and Educational supervisor. Tarun has also completed a Masters in Medical Leadership and has an interest in digital health and telepsychiatry.

    Dr Chris Linton
    Foundation Year Tutor

    Chris is a Consultant Psychiatrist for Older People and is our Foundation Doctor Lead. He is a Clinical an Educational supervisor, with previous experience as the Acting Deputy Medical Director and Acting Chief Clinical Information Officer for the Trust. He was the LCFT Supervisor of the Year (joint) in 2018.

    Dr Lucy Bacon
    SAS Doctors Tutor

    Lucy is a Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist is one of our Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctor tutors. Lucy, along with Iqbal, have been central to the implementation of the SAS Doctor work that we have been doing in the Trust.

    Dr Iqbal Naeem
    SAS Doctors Tutor

    Iqbal is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist is one of our Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctor tutors. Iqbal, along with Lucy, have been central to the implementation of the SAS Doctor work that we have been doing in the Trust. He is a great support to our doctors progressing through CESR. He was awarded the RCPsych CESR evaluator of the year in 2018.

    Dr Simon Belderbos
    Undergraduate Lead

    Simon is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist and the Undergraduate Lead for Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster students whilst they are in the Trust.  He is also one of the module leads at Manchester Medical School. He is an experienced MRCPsych CASC examiner. Simon works closely with a fantastic dedicated team including Medical Education Facilitators (MEFs): Nick Mullin, Kate Cookson, Jane Aldersley and Tina Nash who are supported by Clair Greenwood, Steph Glenholmes and Angela Jones and Aleisha Dawson.

    Medical Staffing Team

    And not forgetting we receive a huge amount amount of input from medical staffing which is led by our Medical Education Manager Jacqui Welding.  We also receive lots of support from temporary staffing who do a fantastic job to support our students and doctors! A Big thank you!
