Helpline available for students

It’s the time of year where colleges and universities are starting, marking a new, sometimes daunting chapter for many students, however there are services available to help individuals who may be feeling low.

Starting a new year at college or university is a very exciting time for students, however for some it can be quite daunting having to make new friends or being away from home for the first time. Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Wellbeing and Mental Health Helpline is encouraging individuals to get in touch if they are feeling low or overwhelmed so they don’t suffer in silence. The helpline also provides a range of wellbeing information for issues such as domestic violence, sleeping problems, eating disorders and many more.

Lorraine Khalaf, Wellbeing and Mental Health Helpline Manager at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We understand it can be difficult to talk to people about how you’re feeling. All our operators are trained to provide a compassionate, caring support service to callers and there’s no need to feel embarrassed if you don’t know what to say, our operators will!

“It is important that young people who may be feeling low, confused or overwhelmed know that this is quite normal when embarking on a new experience such as starting college or university. We want people to know they can call us and talk through how they are feeling, and if they would like to seek further help we can point them in the right direction of the necessary services.”
