Stamp out the cigarettes this New Year

Posted on the 23rd December 2015

Residents in Lancashire are being encouraged to stop smoking in the New Year as their New Year"s resolution.

The Quit Squad at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust offer one to one sessions, drop in clinics with no appointment needed, nicotine replacement therapies, stop smoking products and support and advice to those wanted to stop smoking. The New Year is a great opportunity to quit the habit for good with the teams help.

Julia from Chorley had smoked for 20 years before seeking help from the team. Julia says:

"After smoking between 20 to 30 cigarettes a day I decided I needed to make a change to my lifestyle. I knew smoking was seriously damaging my health and if i wanted to be healthy, I needed to stop smoking completely. I made the decision sooner rather than later and I"m so pleased I did, now one day, starting a family could be a possibility. I couldn"t have done it without the help of the team and my friends and family. Since I stopped I"ve noticed my mood improve, I feel healthier and I no longer feel trapped or controlled by cigarettes.

"I didn"t fancy going to the smoking clinics at first, but a few minutes each week has been invaluable and I would recommend the service to anyone wanting to quit. I take each day as it comes and started by taking small steps like having a smokefree car and then having a smokefree house, now I"m completely smokefree!"

Julie Trezise, Quit Squad Service Manager at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

"We all start the New Year with the best of intentions and stopping smoking is a popular resolution to pledge. Smoking continues to be the major preventable cause of premature death and disease so we are on hand to help you stop smoking. You"re 5 times more likely to quit for good with the help of your local stop smoking service and the Quit Squad is dedicated, friendly and understanding."
