One Week to Go! Mental Health Awareness Week 2016

Posted on the 10th May 2016

With just one week to go until Mental Health Awareness Week 2016, the Central Lancashire Community Restart Team is inviting people to come along and join in the events taking place to mark the week.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Central Lancashire Community Restart Team works with individual service users to provide tailored support according to their requirements, this can include things such as employment, finances, housing and social inclusion.  The team has partnerships with several external organisations to provide service users with the most relevant and up to date support which helps with their recovery and overall wellbeing.

For Mental Health Awareness Week, a national campaign taking place between 16 and 22 May, the team together with some of its partners has organised a range of events in Central Lancashire to raise awareness of mental health and help reduce stigma including cycle events, community walks, a football tournament and much more!

Hanifa Usman-Tailor, Asset Based Community Development Officer at Central Lancashire Community Restart Team at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said of the week:

“This is a great opportunity to get people talking about mental health; whether they are living with mental health problems themselves, or someone is concerned about a loved one. We want to break down the barriers and reduce the stigma around mental health, letting people know it is ok to talk about it and seek help and support.

“We are really looking forward to the week itself and have lots of great events planned. Everyone is welcome to get involved and we look forward to seeing people throughout what looks to be a fun-filled week!”

Events taking place include Cycle4MentalHealth rides along the docklands in Preston and Chorley, a journey of art and wellbeing in Preston and information events to provide support for people experiencing mental health problems and their family and carers including peer support groups as well as housing and employment advice.
