Armed Forces Day

Posted on the 24th June 2016

With Armed Forces Day fast approaching, Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Military Veterans’ Service is reminding people that support is available for veterans across the county who may be experiencing mental health problems.

Armed Forces Day is taking place on Saturday 25 June and across Lancashire there are lots events taking place to mark the occasion and celebrate everything military personnel both past and present do for us. While a time for celebration, it can also trigger memories for some who have served abroad and leave them feeling low. However, help is available for veterans who are experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other mental health issues such as stress, depression and anxiety.

Joe Crocock, Military Veterans Service Manager at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“Military personnel do an awful lot for the country, be it during deployment, assisting in situations such as the recent flooding or doing work with local communities. Armed Forces Day is a great way for people to say thank you for all the forces do for us as well as a time for remembering those who fought in battle and sadly never made it home. While a time of celebration, the day can also trigger negative emotions in veterans and it is important they are aware they don’t need to go through things like this on their own; there are services available to help. We encourage veterans experiencing mental health problems such as PTSD, depression or dealing with substance misuse to get in touch with the service who will be able to provide a tailored approach so individuals receive the best care suited to their needs.”

The Military Veterans’ Service is a partnership between Lancashire Care and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. The service provides a valuable insight and understanding of life both in and out of the forces as many staff are veterans themselves or have family members in the forces.
