Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Contraception and Sexual Health Service (CaSH) has recently been commended for providing a service that is inclusive of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities.
More than half of LGBT people in Lancashire feel that this has an impact on the way that they are treated by health service providers. Lancashire’s Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) Team at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is now within the first batch of recipients to have obtained full LGBT Quality Mark.
Dr Wendy Higson, Clinical Lead for the Contraception and Sexual Health Service said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have received the quality mark for the service we provide to the people of Lancashire. Making people feel welcome and able to approach us for help and advice about their sexual health is really important to us and we welcome people no matter what their background, personal situation or sexual preference”.
About the CaSH Service’s Quality Mark award, Lewis Turner, Lancashire LGBT’s Project Manager, said:
“Even now in 2016, LGBT people in Lancashire still experience specific health inequalities and barriers to accessing services, particularly within health and social care services. For this reason, we are thrilled that the CaSH service has gone the extra mile and made improvements to ensure that LGBT people can have confidence that their specific needs will be understood when accessing the services that CaSH provides.”
The Lancashire LGBT Quality Mark is a quality assurance programme for service providers, assisting in measuring how well the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender service users, volunteers and staff are being met. The programme inspected various areas of the service and in recognition of their LGBT friendly work, credited the team at the Lancashire LGBT awards earlier this month.
