New sexual health clinic to open in Morecambe

Posted on the 10th March 2017

Young people under the age of 25 in Morecambe will soon be able to access quality sexual health services from Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s newly refurbished clinic in Morecambe. The new clinic at Victoria House, Thornton will open week commencing 27 March.

The clinic will enable people aged up to 25 to see health specialists providing comprehensive contraceptive services and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections including HIV in a single appointment.

The service is being provided by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Contraception and Sexual Health Service (CaSH) in partnership with Brook, the young people’s charity.

Sue Capstick, service line manager for sexual health at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The opening of the Victoria House dedicated under 25s sexual health suite is an exciting opportunity for helping to improve sexual health outcomes in the area. Historically, under 25s sexual health services in the area have been delivered from sites that were not purpose built for clinical services and in need of refurbishment. Our suite will be able to offer under 25s a full range of contraception options, testing and treatment for STIs at a purpose built facility close to the town centre”.

An area within Victoria House Morecambe has been undergoing works and will soon be open for business. Services at Victoria House will replace clinics previously run from Kensington Road, Morecambe. The new sexual health suite will have two clinical rooms and will be dedicated to providing sexual health services to under 25s in the Morecambe area. The service will initially run all day Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with additional sessions being led by demand and at times to suit service users.

Earlier this year, the Trust’s CaSH service was awarded the Lancashire LGBT Quality Mark, a quality assurance programme for service providers, assisting in measuring how well the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender service users, volunteers and staff are met.
