Launch Event to Open Lancaster’s New Under 25 Sexual Health Clinic

Posted on the 5th July 2017

Lancaster’s newly refurbished one-stop sexual health clinic for young people under the age of 25 was officially opened at an event on Tuesday 4 July with representatives of local universities and third sector organisations in attendance along with healthcare professionals and commissioners.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Contraception and Sexual Health Service (CaSH) is running the newly refurbished Waterview Clinic in partnership with Brook, the young people’s charity. Lancashire Care’s Chief Executive Professor Heather Tierney-Moore officially opened the site, which is open to people under the age of 25 to access contraceptive services, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections including HIV testing, and advice and information all in a single appointment.

Professor Heather Tierney-Moore, Chief Executive of Lancashire Care, said: “The Waterview Clinic is situated in the heart of the historic city of Lancaster on the bank of the city’s canal, something that reflects on the Trust’s dedication to provide bespoke quality sexual healthcare at the right time and the right place. This is Lancaster’s first dedicated under 25 sexual health clinic, which has been refurbished with a lot of attention to detail, including modern furnishings and artwork, to make it young people friendly. The site of the clinic is a stone’s throw away from Lancaster’s city centre and walking distance from the main thoroughfares into Lancaster.”

Sue Capstick, Lancashire Care’s under 25s Sexual Health Service Lead, said: “Our Waterview Clinic has been designed to the highest standards and provides a welcoming and friendly environment for people under the age of 25. Lancaster is one of the few cities that has never had a dedicated under 25s sexual health hub and as a service we are proud to open the doors of this new facility for young people in the area. Artwork at the site was created and carefully thought through by Outrageous Ambition, a social enterprise, and was designed to promote good mental health by making people feel positive about themselves.”

The Waterview Clinic is situated at White Cross Business Park, Lancaster, LA1 4XQ. The development of the new service in Lancaster forms part of Lancashire Care’s delivery of new under 25s’ sexual health services commissioned on 1 April 2016 to meet the sexual health needs of young people in the area.
