Chorley Health Mela a success

Posted on the 27th September 2017

Services from Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Chorley Council and third sector organisations came together at the All Seasons Leisure Centre in Chorley for the first ever Chorley Health Mela on Saturday 23 September.

The event, which was attended by around 500 members of the public, was organised by the National Forum of Health Wellbeing in partnership with Lancashire Care, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and Chorley Council. The event also saw around 50 stalls promoting health and wellbeing.

Professor Heather Tierney-Moore, Chief Executive of Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted to continue to support such a worthy event as the Health Mela. These melas are fantastic opportunities to raise awareness of a variety of health issues and provide a great chance for people from Chorley and the surrounding areas to speak to a variety of services about how they can improve their own health and wellbeing.”

Professor Romesh Gupta, Chair of the National Forum for Health and Wellbeing said: “It’s been a great day. The opportunity to work on the promotion of Health and Wellbeing in Chorley, not only with colleagues from the health and voluntary sectors but also with Chorley Council, is a splendid example of integrated working at its best.”

The Health Mela started with a breakfast meeting for health professionals on the theme of integrating services in Chorley. Chief guest MP for Chorley Lindsay Hoyle spoke of the importance of delivering seamless health and social care services. He also praised the organisers for working together to hold the event.

The event was formally opened to the public at 11 am, in the presence of Councillor Mark Perks, Mayor of Chorley and the Lady Mayoress. Members of the public who attended the event were given a free seven-day family pass to the All Seasons’ Leisure Centre. Another further health mela is to be held in Leyland on 14 October at Worden Academy on Westfield Drive.
