Posted on the 8th December 2017

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust was awarded for its improved quality community mental health services at the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) National Healthcare Finance Awards.

The local health and wellbeing provider was crowned the winner of the Innovation Award at the ceremony held in central London last night. The prestigious annual awards celebrate excellence in financial departments across the NHS.

The Trust was chosen to receive the accolade from a strong field across the UK and was recognised for its work in developing improved, innovative, community mental health services for people in Lancashire. The award focused on the finance department’s role in delivering a project with improved quality in an efficient and sustainable manner.

Sue Moore, Chief Operating Officer at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said of the achievement:

“It’s such an honour to have received the Innovation Award for work that our services have been doing to ensure that the people of Lancashire receive the best care possible. We have been working so hard to develop community mental health services in Lancashire and we feel extremely proud to be recognised for providing innovative, high quality services that are also financially efficient.

“The event really highlights the dedication from organisations across the country and for us in particularly, has showcased the fantastic partnership working between the mental health network and our finance department!”

Mark Orchard, HFMA outgoing president said:

“The quality of the award entries were extremely high again this year and so to be shortlisted, highly commended or to win is a huge achievement. With the current financial and operational pressures being faced across the NHS, to be an industry leader takes dedication, outstanding leadership and commitment.

“Tonight’s winners have all demonstrated innovation to help deliver efficiency savings and improve their services producing tangible results. Lancashire Care’s award is well deserved and a testament of the strength and quality of our NHS finance managers.”

The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) National Healthcare Finance Awards programme has eight categories which recognise the work of finance teams and individuals from across the UK. The awards cover the fundamental aspects of the finance team role: including the production of the accounts, costing, governance, training and development, as well as the vital area of innovation.
