Lancashire Care has been shortlisted for the iNetwork Innovation Awards

Posted on the 21st December 2017

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for the iNetwork and Innovation Awards for its Knowledge and Legal Advice Centre (KnowLA) Initiative.

The project has been commended for the ‘Connected Procurement & Commissioning Award’ at this year’s iNetwork Innovation Awards. The Trust is one of four organisations shortlisted for demonstrating outstanding success and achievement in public procurement and commissioning.

The Trust undertook a review of its approach to engaging with external legal services. The outcome identified that there was an inconsistent approach to obtaining legal advice and how this information was utilised and shared within the organisation.  Following the review and to ensure that the Trust was delivering an effective and efficient approach, the Trust began to develop a centralised process for recording, monitoring and collating all legal advice which was supported by legal firm Ward Hadaway. The Knowledge and Legal Advice Centre (KnowLA) aimed to:

• Reduce spend on legal advice
• Reduce unnecessary repetition of advice
• Speed up solutions to legal issues and share knowledge and best practice
• Free up clinicians’ time by providing quick and easy access to a repository of advice

Julie-Ann Bowden, Associate Director of Risk and Assurance at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We are so proud to be shortlisted for this award and to be recognised for our innovative KnowLA project. We have worked hard to create a system that works to reduce duplication and the time taken to address issues and make decisions. Here at Lancashire Care people are at the heart of everything we do. By creating KnowLA we have supported our staff in being able to spend more time on patient care, as well as enabling legal queries to be dealt with quicker.

“The ambition of the initiative was to help managers across the organisation to access the information they need, at the touch of a button and I feel we have definitely achieved this with KnowLA. It’s a privilege to have our work recognised by the iNetwork and we are really looking forward to meeting and learning from fellow shortlisted nominees!”
