Get The Research Bug!

Posted on the 14th May 2018

A team of Research Practitioners are looking to improve services and treatments by taking responsibility for the future and encourage more people in Lancashire to get involved in health research!

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Research Department lead and contribute to a wide range of research initiatives, which benefit many communities across Lancashire. Based at the newly opened National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Lancashire Clinical Research Facility (CRF) in Preston, the team are striving to get people talking about research and raise awareness of the opportunities that are happening on people’s doorstep.

The ‘Get The Research Bug’ Campaign is a an initiative to get more people involved in research by promoting the benefits and importance of taking part in research and to develop the research opportunities available for local people. The team are looking to increase the amount of research projects carried out and participated in across the Trust by making sure that every service user and carer has the opportunity to take part in research. The team is also working to build relationships with more local research networks in order to deliver opportunities across Lancashire.

Katie Sinnott, Research Nurse at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

“Research truly is key to the development of the NHS and we are working to hard to try and make research the norm by raising the profile in order for it to be something that people would immediately think of as another option for them. We started the ‘Get The Research Bug’ campaign to encourage people to start asking what opportunities there are available for them and for our clinicians to know that research is happening and for them be able to suggest these opportunities to our service users and patients.

“We really are proactively trying to start these conversations in order to find out what kind of research people are interested in, so that as a team we can seek out relevant studies to deliver and support our trust to develop their own projects as well.

“Research at Lancashire Care is growing rapidly and as a team we are more equipped than ever to continue to grow and deliver a wider range of more complex trials. We feel strongly as a team that we have exciting times ahead and we want to share this excitement and hope for the future with our service users and the rest of the staff within the Trust!”
