Speech & Language Therapy - Professional Support

If you would like to find out more about the professional standards all Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) must adhere to or gain an understanding of national events promoting the work we do or are interested in training to become an SLT the websites below are really useful.

The RCSLT is the professional body for Speech and Language Therapists in the UK, providing leadership and setting professional standards.  It facilitates and promotes research into the field of Speech and Language Therapy, promotes better education and training of Speech and Language Therapists and provides information for our members and the public about Speech and Language Therapy.

The HCPC keeps a register of health and care professionals who meet their standards for their training, professional skills, behaviour and health. This means all Speech and Language Therapists are on this register and must meet all the professional standards. No one is allowed to call themselves a Speech and Language Therapist unless they are registered with HCPC.

RCSLT guidance and resources to support all RCSLT members in delivering high quality services wherever they work. This is a ‘live’ resource applicable to all Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) which allows us to update and meet the changing needs of the profession.

The Communication Trust website has a section on it regarding supporting professional working in the field. In addition it also contains information on the ‘What Works Project’ looking at research in the field of Speech and Language Therapy.
