Sparky’s is a pioneering café challenging mental health stigma and promoting social inclusion. Based at The Harbour, Blackpool; Sparky’s is run by Richmond Fellowship, the national charity making mental health recovery a reality. Open seven days a week 8:00am to 20:00pm, the staff at Sparky’s will be on hand serving a delicious high quality menu at competitive prices as well as a fine selection of hot and cold drinks. Yet Sparky’s is far more than your average café, it’s a community space to promote mental health awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding it.
Every transaction at Sparky’s will be an opportunity to speak about mental health and for guests to talk about their experiences and seek advice. Guests will also be able to have a ‘cuppa with Sparky’ where they can talk with trained professionals about their concerns or experiences on mental health. Sparky’s will also be offering workshops and events to make every customer engagement a contribution to well being and mental health awareness.
The Sparky’s team promotes education and development. Run by volunteers and apprentices, Sparky’s will serve to help its staff gain workplace experience and education. Sparky’s will also offer opportunities for people living or recovering from mental health problems and people with disadvantaged backgrounds.
